Upgrading graphics cards in older computers is pointless, usually you would have to upgrade the motherboard, processor and the case so you would be much better off building a PC from scratch!

That depends Batman, don't know why you brought up this old topic but anyhow. It depends on what games he wants to play.... if he is talking Haulin,ALH and ETS or ET then upgrading might be a better bet. I'm running a 04 system an AMD 2.2ghz single core with an ATI x1650 pro 512 megs ram and have no problems. Although if you wish to make videos and do alot of encoding then upgrading your computer is the best way to go. It can take up to 6 hours to encode 2hr movie on a single core processor but take less then 1 hr on a duo core.. and now we have quad core... so you do the math, lol.

My previous post should answer your question, a computer that old will require upgrading many parts for succesful gameplay. It would work out cheaper buying a new computer or building your own So there is my advice, good job I did dig up an old topic ArcticWolf cause this guy still needs help.
